Dr Asvat studied Ophthalmology attaining his Fellowship of the College of Ophthalmologist of South Africa (FC Ophth (SA)) after acquiring his medical degree ( MBBCh ) in 2004 at the University of the Witwatersrand (WITS). Following this, he completed his internship at Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital. For the next year, as part of his social commitment, he completed his community service at the Klerksdorp and Tsepong Hospitals.

Dr Asvat concluded his training in Oculoplastic surgery with the European School of Advanced Studies in Ophthalmogy (ESASO) and is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmologists and the Ophthalmic Society of South Africa. His special fields of interest include Cataract surgery, Glaucoma, Oculoplastic surgery and Cornea surgery.
