Academic Role

Our doctors play a leading role in academia , sharing their expertise and helping to train the next generation of ophthalmologists. Both of our doctors work at St Johns Eye Hospital (Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital)  and the University of Witwatersrand. In order to provide this high level of excellence our doctors have completed post graduate qualifications:  6 years at medical school, 1year internship, 1 year community service, 1-2 years as ophthalmic medical officer, 4 years of specialist training.

As part of our commitment to education, our doctors are part of the core faculty at the University of Witwatersrand and train the next generation of ophthalmologist.

 

Our doctors regularly present lectures at meetings and conferences. Some of the lectures presented include:

  • Central corneal thickness in the black South African patients with glaucoma ( ophthalmic society of South Africa meeting)
  • Paediatric Glaucoma  ( ophthalmic society of South Africa meeting)
  • Uveitic Glaucoma (South African Glaucoma Society meeting)
  • Angle Recession Glaucoma (South African Glaucoma Society meeting)
  • Ocular Hypertension (South African Glaucoma Society meeting)
  • IGG4 disease ( South African Society of Oculoplastic Surgery meeting)
  • Dermis fat grafts  ( South African Society of Oculoplastic Surgery meeting)
